A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface from spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent defended four early chances in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
